Neighborhood Audio Portraits: Canaryville
Lumpen Radio proudly collaborated with Chicago Public Library Canaryville, bringing Neighborhood Audio Portraits to this historic neighborhood.

NAP Canaryville was created through a four-part radio workshop at the Canaryville Branch Library. Young people explored their neighborhood through interviews, research and local history by capturing the voices and stories that make Canaryville what it is—past, present, and future.

Chicago Public Library teen interns Akeelah and Daniel interview life-long residents of the neighborhood and learn more about it’s history and the experience of living in one of modern-day Chicago’s oldest communities. This was the teens’ first foray into radio, reporting, and interviewing and they did an excellent job researching, scriptwriting, rehearsing, and of course broadcasting live in front of an audience!
Thank you to our interviewees in order of appearance: JoAnne Willis, Rita Loretto, and Laura McGee!

The live broadcast took place on July 16th, 2025!
